Sustainable home grown wood
Meet Roy Humphreys
Roy is the 4th generation of the Humphreys family working with wood. He is a self taught turner - something that started out as as a hobby and has since developed into a business.
Roy has been woodturning for over 20 years now and works soley from his studio, a converted granary beside the family home outside Mohill.
light - tough - flexible
An important native tree, Ash is the most common tree in Irish hedgerows. It is sometimes called the “Venus of the Woods” due to its attractive shape and beautiful foliage.
Ash was thought to have power over water and was often planted near sacred springs, known as Clootie wells, which were places of pilgrimage for the Celts.
Light, tough and flexible, Ash is commonly used to make furniture, walking sticks and hurleys for the Irish sport of hurling. Historically, it was also used to build boats and Irish emigrants to America often took pieces of Ash with them for protection against the sea.

Each piece is beautifully hand crafted
Roy's work is beautiful and every piece has its own individuality and charm. His meticulous crafted pieces are alive and bursting with energy. His work is an expression of a craftsman of sheer quality with a deep love and passion for wood.
Delighted with my wooden tea lights and quality of work. The wood grain and patterns add to their individuality and the smooth finish makes it a pleasant tactile object with the function of a tea light.
Amazing to see Roy's handcrafted pieces of art & practical gifts made by wood on his farm. Sustainability at it's best!
